...A MAJOR WINTER STORM IS CURRENTLY IMPACTING THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS...
 
FLOOD AND FLASH FLOOD WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND ADVISORIES ARE IN
EFFECT FOR CENTRAL TEXAS AND PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHEAST.
 
A LARGE AREA EXTENDING FROM THE FOUR CORNERS REGION EASTWARD
THROUGH THE OZARKS AND INTO THE LOWER MID-ATLANTIC IS UNDER A
WINTER STORM WARNING WITH WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES BOUNDING THIS
REGION TO THE NORTH AND SOUTH. MEANWHILE...WINTER STORM WATCHES
HAVE BEEN ISSUED ACROSS THE UPPER PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHEASTERN
U.S. AS WELL AS OVER THE LOWER MID-ATLANTIC STATES.

AT 200 AM CST...A LARGE COMPLEX OF PRECIPITATION CONTINUED TO
MARCH THROUGH THE SOUTHERN PLAINS WITH A VARIETY OF PRECIPITATION
TYPES FALLING TO THE GROUND. ALONG A SOUTHWEST-NORTHEAST ORIENTED
SURFACE BOUNDARY...MODERATE TO HEAVY RAINFALL WAS FALLING FROM THE
BIG BEND OF TEXAS NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS MUCH OF THE LONE STAR STATE
AND INTO THE DALLAS-FORT WORTH METROPLEX. SOME OF THE HEAVIER AXES
OF RAINFALL HAVE BEEN ACCOMPANIED BY FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS.
MEANWHILE...UNDERNEATH THE UPPER LOW...PORTIONS OF EASTERN
COLORADO......CENTRAL NEW MEXICO...SOUTHERN KANSAS...AND NORTHERN
OKLAHOMA WERE RECEIVING LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOWFALL.
FURTHERMORE...A MIXTURE OF FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET WAS FALLING
ACROSS MOST OF OKLAHOMA AND INTO ARKANSAS. ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE
WEATHER SYSTEM...A LARGE DRY SLOT HAD DEVELOPED KEEPING MUCH OF
WEST-CENTRAL TEXAS DEVOID OF PRECIPITATION.

PANHANDLE WILL SLOWLY PUSH EASTWARD ACROSS THE LONE STAR STATE
BEFORE REACHING THE ARKLATEX BY FRIDAY EVENING. IN ADDITION...A
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE CENTER WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP OVER SOUTHERN
TEXAS AND WILL MOVE EASTWARD ACROSS THE LOWER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY.
THE COMPLIMENTARY PAIR OF LOW CENTERS WILL SUPPORT MORE SNOWFALL
THIS MORNING FROM THE TEXAS/OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE EASTWARD THROUGH
SOUTHERN KANSAS AND INTO NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA. SNOW TOTALS OF 6
TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ACROSS THIS AREA BY DAYBREAK. THE HEAVY
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO PUSH EASTWARD FRIDAY ACROSS SOUTHERN
MISSOURI...NORTHERN TO CENTRAL ARKANSAS...TENNESSEE...SOUTHERN
KENTUCKY...SOUTHERN VIRGINIA AND WESTERN TO CENTRAL NORTH
CAROLINA. SNOW TOTALS IN EXCESS OF 4 INCHES POSSIBLE ACROSS THESE
AREAS. IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW THREAT...THERE WILL BE THE
THREAT OF SIGNIFICANT ICING THIS MORNING FROM PORTIONS OF CENTRAL
OKLAHOMA EASTWARD THROUGH MUCH OF ARKANSAS. THIS ICING THREAT IS
FORECAST TO SPREAD EASTWARD FRIDAY ACROSS PORTIONS OF EASTERN
ARKANSAS...FAR NORTHERN MISSISSIPPI...SOUTHERN TENNESSEE...INTO
UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA AND ACROSS WESTERN TO CENTRAL NORTH
CAROLINA.
