SHALLOW ARCTIC AIR AND A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCES
EMANATING FROM A DEEP UPPER TROUGH OVER THE WESTERN UNITED
STATES...IN CONJUNCTION WITH STRONG UPPER LEVEL SOUTHWESTERLY
FLOW...ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CURRENT BOUT OF DANGEROUS WINTER
WEATHER CONDITIONS. FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE ACROSS
MUCH OF THE AFFECTED AREA AND SPREAD INTO THE EASTERN PORTION OF
THE GREAT LAKES. AMOUNTS OF 0.25 TO 0.50 INCHES ARE LIKELY TO BE
WIDESPREAD FROM THE CENTRAL PLAINS STATES INTO THE MIDWEST AND
RESPONSIBLE FOR POSSIBLE POWER OUTAGES. SOME AREAS WILL LIKELY
RECEIVE UP TO AN INCH OR MORE OF ICE...CAPABLE OF WIDESPREAD AND
DESTRUCTIVE DAMAGE...AS WELL AS HAZARDOUS TRAVEL.

THE AREA FROZEN PRECIPITATION WILL MOVE SLOWLY TO THE NORTHEAST
THROUGH TUESDAY WITH THE FREEZING RAIN CHANGING TO SNOW ACROSS
KANSAS AND NEBRASKA BEFORE ENDING TUESDAY NIGHT. BY TUESDAY
NIGHT...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN WILL HAVE CLEARED OUT OF THE
PLAINS STATES AS IT CONTINUES TO AFFECT THE LOWER GREAT LAKES AND
UPPER OHIO VALLEY. BY EARLY WEDNESDAY...SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN
WILL BE MOVING INTO NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE NORTHEAST BUT SHOULD
NOT BE AS SEVERE AS THE ICING FOUND OVER THE PLAINS AND PORTIONS
OF THE MIDWEST.

AS THIS BATCH OF PRECIPITATION ENDS ON WEDNESDAY...A NEW AREA OF
FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET MAY AGAIN REDEVELOP OVER THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS AS THE NEWEST STORM SYSTEM BEGINS TO FORM ALONG THE
TRAILING EDGE OF A COLD FRONT OVER THE GULF COAST AND TENNESSEE
VALLEY. THIS SYSTEM MAY THEN SPREAD MORE FREEZING RAIN...SLEET
AND SNOW TO THE OHIO VALLEY AND THEN TO THE NORTHEAST ON
THURSDAY...WITH SIGNIFICANT SNOWS POSSIBLE FOR PORTIONS OF NEW
YORK AND SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND.

THE NEXT STORM SUMMARY WILL BE ISSUED BY THE HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL
PREDICTION CENTER AT 3 PM CST. PLEASE REFER TO YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE OFFICE FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON THIS EVENT.
