PUBLIC ADVISORY NUMBER 9 FOR TROPICAL DEPRESSION GRACE
NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER CAMP SPRINGS MD
10 AM CDT MON SEP 01 2003

CURRENT WATCHES/WARNINGS...A NUMBER OF FLOOD WATCHES ARE IN
EFFECT FOR THE REMAINDER OF TODAY IN AN AREA FOCUSED HEAVILY ON
THE MID MISSISSIPPI VALLEY AND OHIO VALLEY. MORE SPECIFICALLY THE
WATCHES COVER EASTERN OKLAHOMA AND WESTERN ARKANSAS
NORTHEASTWARD
INTO SOUTHERN MISSOURI AND SOUTHERN ILLINOIS. FLOOD WATCHES ALSO
EXTEND EASTWARD MAINLY NORTH OF THE OHIO RIVER INCLUDING PARTS OF
ILLINOIS...INDIANA...OHIO AND EASTWARD INTO PENNSYLVANIA.

AT 10 AM CDT...15Z...TROPICAL DEPRESSION GRACE WAS CENTERED NEAR
LATITUDE 33.1 NORTH...96.4 WEST...OR ABOUT 15 MILES WEST OF
GREENVILLE TEXAS.

GRACE IS NOW MOVING NORTH AT 10 MPH AND A GENERAL NORTHWARD OR
NORTH-NORTHEAST MOTION IS LIKELY OVER THE NEXT 12 HOURS AT A
SLIGHTLY SLOWER SPEED.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 20 MPH WITH LOCALLY HIGH GUSTS
IN SOME HEAVIER SHOWERS MAINLY NORTH OF THE WEAKENING LOW LEVEL
CENTER. THE MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 29.83 INCHES...1010 MB.

GRACE HAS CONTINUED TO TURN THE RIGHT OVER THE LAST 6 HOURS WITH
A MOTION TO THE NORTH AT 10 MPH. LATEST SATELLITE AND RADAR
IMAGERY COMBINED WITH UPPER AIR DATA...INDICATE THAT GRACE
REMAINS A WEAK TROPICAL SYSTEM FOR THE TIME BEING. WATER VAPOR
IMAGERY SHOWS THAT AN UPPER LEVEL TROF CONTINUES TO PUSH EASTWARD
ACROSS THE PLAINS WHICH IS HELPING TO PULL GRACE NORTHWARD. A
FRONTAL ZONE SITUATED OVER THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND NORTHEASTWARD
INTO THE OHIO VALLEY WILL CONTINUE TO ABSORB MOISTURE FROM GRACE
AND AFFORD A BROAD THREAT OF HEAVY RAIN ACROSS MANY OF THE AREAS
CURRENTLY UNDER A FLOOD WATCH. ASSOCIATED JET DYNAMICS WITH THE
UPPER TROF AND OVERRUNNING NORTH OF THE FRONT WILL HELP TO
ENHANCE THE RAINFALL THREAT.

SELECTED STORM TOTAL AMOUNTS IN INCHES OVER THE LAST 24 HOURS
VALID 12Z (7 AM CDT).

LOCATION STORM TOTAL

DEEP TROPICAL MOISTURE ASSOCIATED WITH GRACE SHOULD CONTINUE TO
MOVE NORTHWARD AND GRADUALLY INTERACT MORE WITH THE
AFOREMENTIONED FRONTAL ZONE. THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR UP TO 5
INCH RAINFALL AMOUNTS IN A 24 HR PERIOD IN THE VICINITY OF THE
BOUNDARY OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS EXTENDING FROM THE
SOUTHERN
PLAINS NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE OHIO VALLEY.
