HPC Products in KML Format

HPC is providing a subset of its product suite in KeyHole Markup Language (KML) format.   KML is used by a variety of GIS and mapping applications, including Google Earth, ArcGIS Explorer, Microsoft Virtual Earth, NASA WorldWind View, and numerous others, to display geospatial data on two-dimensional maps and three-dimensional Earth browsers.

Currently, the following products are available in KML format:

Note to Google Earth users (12/29/2011): As of version 6, Google has corrected a problem with their network links that resulted in poor color rendition. Consequently, the complete QPF packages and 24-hour Days 1-3 QPFs should now display correctly.

A free version of Google Earth is available for download at
http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html, along with an accompanying user guide.

In addition to KML, HPC creates many of its guidance products in shapefile format; these are available for download at ftp://ftp.hpc.ncep.noaa.gov/shapefiles.
