HPC's Mission and Vision
Welcome to the HPC
Located
in the World Weather Building in Camp Springs, MD, the Hydrometeorological
Prediction Center is one of the nine National Centers for Environmental Prediction
(NCEP), which is part of the National Weather Service (NWS). The
HPC exists to meet the real-time weather information needs of a growing
group of users including NWS field offices, other governmental agencies,
the media, the private sector, academic institutions, the international
community, and the general public. We support the NWS mission of
protecting lives and property and enhancing the national economy.
We have created this web site so you can learn more about our operations
and view our latest products.

Mission Statement
A leader in the collaborative weather forecast process delivering responsive, accurate, and reliable
national forecasts and analyses.

Vision Statement
America's Go-To Center for high-impact precipitation events and forecast guidance out to 14 days for
a Weather-Ready Nation.

HPC's Strategic Plan
In late 2011, HPC developed a 5-year plan for supporting the National Weather Service's goal of building a Weather-Ready
Nation. Included in the plan (and defined above) are our new mission and vision statements.
