SYNOPSIS (VALID FROM OCTOBER 28 AT 00UTC): NORTH OVER CONTINENTAL
AREAS OF TROPICAL SOUTH AMERICA...A CELL OF THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE
IS ESTABLISHING ACROSS NORTHWESTERN AMAZONIA WHILE A BROAD TROUGH
EXTENDS ACROSS CENTRAL BRASIL INTO EASTERN PARA. THIS IS
VENTILATING DIURNAL CONVECTION ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PARTS
OF THE AMAZON BASIN. STRONGEST CONVECTION WAS OCCURRING HOWEVER
BETWEEN SOUTHERN PARA AND MATO GROSSO...WHERE UPPER DIVERGENCE WAS
BEING FAVORED IN THE EAST FLANK OF AN UPPER TROUGH THAT EXTENDS
FROM NORTHERN ARGENTINA/CHACO PARAGUAYO INTO EASTERN BOLIVIA AND
RONDONIA.

AT 250 HPA...THE JET ANALYSIS SHOWS THE SOUTHERN POLAR JET
EXTENDING ALONG 50S 81W...A 128KT MAXIMA AT 58S 70W...60S 53W...A
123KT MAXIMA AT 56S 37W...EXITING AT 49S 24W. THE NORTHERN POLAR
EXTENDS ALONG 40S 109W...A 122KT MAXIMA AT 34S 95W...33S 85W...39S
72W...EXITING AT 41S 60W. IT REFORMS AT 45S 57W ALONG A 180KT
MAXIMA AT 48S 39W...41S 22W. THE SUBTROPICAL JET FORMS AT 33S
73W...ALONG 37S 59W...42S 40W...37S 27W...EXITING AT 32S 19W.
ANOTHER FINGER EXTENDS FROM 33S 61W ALONG 35S 53W...EXITING AT 34S
45W. ANOTHER FINGER EXTENDS FROM 26S 43W EXITING AT 19S 41W.

AT 500 HPA...A LARGE TROUGH EXTENDS FROM TWO LOWS IN THE
BELLINGSHAUSEN SEA. ONE CENTERS AT 67S 92W AND ANOTHER AT 65S 72W.
THE TROUGH EXTENDS INTO 40S 97W. A SECOND BROADER TROUGH EXTENDS
TO THE NORTH INTO 25S 85W. THESE ARE LEADING TO WEST-NORTHWESTERLY
FLOW OVER MOST OF THE SOUTHERN CONE. A SHORT WAVE PERTURBATION IS
EXITING SOUTHERN BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE WHILE FOCUSING ITS ENERGY
OVER OPEN WATERS OF THE ATLANTIC. TO THE NORTH...A CLOSED LOW
CENTERS OVER RIO DE JANEIRO IN BRASIL. THIS LOW WAS FOCUSING ITS
ENERGY OVER BROAD AREAS OF SOUTHEASTERN BRASIL. TO THE WEST...A
HIGH CENTERED OVER MISIONES IN ARGENTINA.

AT LOW LEVELS...THE SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS A 970 HPA LOW AT 63S
57W EXTENDING A FRONT ALONG 59S 54W...56S 58W...A 986 HPA LOW AT
55S 68W...53S 68W...51S 70W...A 998 HPA LOW AT 51S 80W...49S 79W.
RAINFALL WAS BEING REPORTED IN PARTS OF THE DRAKE PASSAGE. A FRONT
EXTENDS FROM 48S 54W INTO 48S 62W...A 1002 HPA LOW AT 48S
67W...46S 66W...43S 68W...A 1006 HPA LOW AT 44S 76W...42S 74W.
RAINFALL WAS BEING REPORTED AT PUERTO MONTT IN CHILE. A 1013 HPA
HIGH CENTERED AT 35S 63W. A 1006 HPA LOW AT 39S 55W EXTENDED A
FRONT ALONG 34S 55W...30S 59W...28S 66W. RAINFALL AND
THUNDERSTORMS WERE BEING REPORTED IN PARTS OF THE RIO DE LA PLATA
BASIN.
