SYNOPSIS (VALID FROM 22 APRIL 00UTC): AT 200 HPA...THE
SUBEQUATORIAL RIDGE CENTERED ACROSS THE EQUATORIAL ATLANTIC INTO
THE GUIANAS. ANOTHER RIDGE CENTERED OVER NORTHWESTERN
PERU/SOUTHWESTERN ECUADOR. THESE FEATURES WERE LEADING TO
WIDESPREAD UPPER DIVERGENCE ACROSS MOST OF COLOMBIA INTO
RORAIMA/NORTHERN AMAZONAS IN BRASIL. A WELL DEFINED UPPER TROUGH
WAS MOVING EASTWARD WHILE EXTENDING ACROSS EXTREME SOUTHERN
PERU-WESTERN BOLIVIA-NORTHWESTERN RONDONIA. THIS TROUGH WAS
LEADING TO WIDESPREAD UPPER DIVERGENCE ACROSS MATO GROSSO/PARA.
THIS WAS PARTICULARLY TRUE OVER MATO GROSSO DO SUL AND NORTHERN
PARAGUAY/SOUTHEASTERN BOLIVIA...AS THE DIVERGENT TIER OF THE
TROUGH WAS INTERACTING WITH THE LEFT ENTRANCE OF AN UPPER JET.
STRONGEST CONVECTION WAS OCCURRING ACROSS SOUTHEASTERN BOLIVIA AND
PARAGUAY.

AT 250 HPA...THE JET ANALYSIS SHOWS THE NORTHERN POLAR JET FORMS
AT 35S 105W ALONG 37S 98W...40S 89W...43S 83W...45S 75W...46S
66W...44S 60W...EXITING AT 36S 52W. A BRANCH OF THE SUBTROPICAL
JET FORMED AT 11S 99W ALONG 13S 95W...16S 90W...17S 79W...EXITING
OVER NORTHERN AREQUIPA IN PERU. ANOTHER BRANCH FORMED AT 25S
56W...26S 48W...27S 36W. ANOTHER FORMED AT 29S 56W ALONG 30S
49W...30S 39W...32S 29W...EXITING AT 39S 19W.

AT MID LEVELS...A LARGE TROUGH IN THE SOUTHERN STREAM CENTERED ON
A LOT AT 65S 105W. IT EXTENDED A SHORT WAVE TROUGH INTO EXTREME
SOUTHERN CHILE. TO THE NORTHEAST...A BROAD RIDGE CENTERING OFF THE
COAST OF CENTRAL CHILE EXTENDED INTO PATAGONIA. ANOTHER LARGE
TROUGH CENTERED ON TWO LOWS...ONE AT 45S 45W AND ANOTHER AT 55S
45W. THE TROUGH EXTENDED FROM NORTHEASTERN ARGENTINA INTO
20W...AND TO THE SOUTH OF 25S.

THE SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS A 978 HPA LOW AT 66S 87W EXTENDI9NG A
FRONT ALONG A 994 HPA LOW AT 58S 78W...54S 72W...50S 72W...46S
79W. SHOWERS WERE OCCURRING ACROSS MOST OF SOUTHERN CHILE. A 1010
HPA LOW AT 34S 45W EXTENDS A FRONT INTO 31S 51W...31S 58W...33S
62W...38S 64W. SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING ALONG AND
AHEAD OF THIS FRONT IN SOUTHERN BRASIL. ANOTHER FRONT EXTENDED
ALONG A 1010 HPA LOW AT 34S 25W...28S 26W...26S 29W...21S
41W...22S 48W...FOZ DO IGUACU.
