SYNOPSIS (VALID FROM OCTOBER 29 AT 00UTC): NORTH OVER THE
CONTINENT...THE SUBTROPICAL RIDGE IS WELL DEFINED OVER THE COAST
OF CENTRAL PERU...WHILE ANOTHER RIDGE IS STARTING TO BUILD OVER
RONDONIA AND NORTHERN MATO GROSSO/SOUTHERN PARA. A WELL DEFINED
TROUGH EXTENDS ACROSS WESTERN BOLIVIA INTO SOUTHERN PERU...WHILE
ANOTHER TROUGH EXTENDS FROM A LOW OVER SOUTHEASTERN MINAS GERAIS
IN BRASIL INTO PIAUI/MARANHAO...FORMING A BROAD TROUGH TO THE
NORTH. BEST VENTILATION WITH THESE SYSTEMS IS OCCURRING ACROSS
PARTS OF CENTRAL BRASIL...FROM MATO GROSS INTO GOIAS AND SOUTHERN
TOCANTINS/CENTRAL BAHIA...WHERE STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WERE
OCCURRING. SCATTERED DIURNAL CONVECTION WAS ALSO BEING VENTILATED
ACROSS MOST OF THE CENTRAL AMAZON...AND MORE ISOLATED CONVECTION
WAS OCCURRING ACROSS THE WESTERN AMAZON IN BOLIVIA/PERU/ECUADOR.

AT 500 HPA...A BROAD TROUGH CENTERED OVER THE BELLINGSHAUSEN AND
WEDDELL SEAS. IT EXTENDED A WELL DEFINED TROUGH TO THE NORTHWEST
ACROSS TIERRA DEL FUEGO INTO 40S 80W AND THEN TO 30S 80W. THIS
TROUGH WAS FOCUSING CYCLONIC VORTICITY ADVECTION OVER SOUTHERN
CHILE AND SOUTHERN PATAGONIA. THE TROUGH WAS PRESSING INTO A RIDGE
EXTENDING OVER WESTERN AND SOUTHERN BRASIL...CENTERING ON A HIGH
OVER SANTA CATARINA. A CLOSED LOW CENTERED OVER SOUTHEASTERN MINAS
GERAIS IN BRASIL.

AT LOW LEVELS...A 978 HPA LOW AT 58S 86W EXTENDED A FRONT INTO A
986 HPA LOW AT 54S 84W...52S 86W...51S 90W. A 976 HPA LOW AT 53S
59W EXTENDS A FRONT INTO 49S 62W...46S 68W...A 1006 HPA LOW AT 42S
73W...36S 75W...30S 80W. RAINFALL WAS OCCURRING IN SEVERAL
LOCATIONS IN SOUTHERN CHILE. A 1000 HPA LOW AT 42S 64W EXTENDS A
FRONT INTO 39S 64W...36S 67W. A 1006 HPA LOW AT 42S 38W EXTENDS A
FRONT ALONG 40S 39W...38S 43W...35S 49W...RIO DE LA
PLATA...CORDOBA IN ARGENTINA. THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING ACROSS
MOST OF THE EASTERN BUENOS AIRES PROVINCE AND SOUTHERN URUGUAY. A
TROUGH EXTENDED FROM CENTRAL ESPIRITO SANTO INTO A 1010 HPA LOW AT
17S 46W...CENTRAL MATO GROSSO DO SUL. THUNDERSTORMS WERE OCCURRING
TO THE NORTH OF THIS TROUGH.
